CENS® ProFlex

>How long am I able to wear the CENS® ProFlex for?

There is no time limit. Many users wear them all day long on game shoots. It really depends on the users need and comfort.

>What is the difference between CENS® ProFlex digital 1e and the CENS® ProFlex digital 1?

The ProFlex digital 1e does not have a rotary volume control. The push button steps through 4 pre-set volume levels. This also means that the battery needs to be removed to switch off. The earpiece colours are only available in red and blue and the electronic module is only available in black. The packaging is also less elaborate. These small changes allow for the CENS® ProFlex digital 1e to be purchased at a lower price.

>Will I hear better with CENS® than with filtered ear plugs?

YES, you will hear everything around you.

> Why is the range so big? It’s difficult to decide the best model for me.

The model range reflects the amount of design time and field trials we have conducted. These models are optimised to best suit a range of users. If in doubt contact us to discuss your requirements.

> My battery does not last long.

If the correct battery is used there are a few reasons this may occur :-

i. The device is not being turned off after use.

ii. Infrequent use. The Zinc Air battery starts to work after the tab is removed and continues to discharge even when the CENS® is switched off. The battery life information is for continuous use and is a guide only.

iii. You are not using the recommended manufacturer’s batteries.

> Can I use any coin cell battery that fits?

NO, only Zinc Air type batteries should be used as these have the highest energy density for the size of the battery and are designed to be used in demanding situations like this. Other chemistry batteries will work but not last very long.

We only recommend that you use Rayovac or Purcell Plus batteries as these have proven to last longer in field tests.

> Will ear muffs protect me any better?

Test results show that ear plugs provide higher levels of protection than ear muffs when the seal in the ear is correct. Only under very high sound pressure levels will the sound significantly travel through the skull and fitting ear muffs to cover the mastoid will not stop this.

It is important to familiarise yourself with the fitting procedure prior to using them to ensure you get the maximum protection.

> Will I hear the birds approaching on a shoot day?

YES, CENS® provides low level amplification to enhance your ability to hear the approaching birds.

Some users have reported that they hear their own footsteps when walking. We say that generally the quarry you are trying to stalk up on will have similar hearing abilities to this and will hear you also.

> Can I use CENS® on an indoor range?

YES, we recommend the use of both ear plugs and earmuffs on an indoor range especially with high calibres.

> Will the electronic modules fit directly into my CENS® Passive Earplugs?

YES, they have been designed to do this.

> What do the beeping sounds that CENS® make mean?

Activation Melody - Played when the devices are switched on (after the 5 second activation delay).

Low Battery Warning - Played every 5 minutes to indicate the battery is low and should be changed.

Program 1 Selected - Played to indicate Program 1 is selected.

Program 2 Selected - Played to indicate Program 2 is selected.

> Do my CENS® ProFlex need to be serviced?

Yes! ALL miniature electronic devices that go into the ear and are used outdoors are subjected to quite some degree of foreign bodies; ear wax, sweat, moisture and varying ambient conditions. The CENS® is designed with maximum protection from these outside influences, however on occasion electronic parts will fail, sometimes from user error and other times due to wear and tear. We recommend that your CENS® are serviced at least once a year to maintain perfect functionality and peak performance. This is carried out free of charge during the warranty period.

Out of warranty, servicing your CENS® devices is now cheaper than ever before. We have reduced our charges by 50%!

> Will insect repellent affect my CENS® devices?

Some insect repellents do contain DEET which is an effective solvent. This will cause damage to the materials of the CENS® devices so should not be used. Testing in house showed Jungle formula Medium and Maximum to degrade the plastic but Jungle Formula Sensitive Skin and Natural had no effect.

Mino CENS®

>Why would I buy the Mino CENS® and not the other custom models?

The Mino CENS® was designed to be used straight from the box to be more convenient. They are also more cost effective than custom devices.

> Can I have a custom tip made in place of the foam tips?

Yes custom tips are available for an additional cost.

> I wear hearing aids, will the Mino CENS® be ok for me to use?

Probably not, unless you only have a very mild hearing loss.

> How often will I need to change the wax guards on the Mino CENS®?

This is totally dependent on the person. As a general rule we suggest once a month, but this may be less or more if the Mino CENS® are worn a lot of the time or if you generate a lot of cerumen (ear wax).

> Why have so many different size ear tips?

We provide the user with a wide range of sizes when they first purchase the Mino CENS® so that they can find the one that provides the best attenuation, fit and comfort. After this you may then just purchase the colour ear tip you require.

> How long will the foam tips last?

With care the foam should last many months, however we suggest that they be changed monthly to ensure correct function and fit.

> Can I have other colour devices apart from red and blue?

No, these are the only colours available in this model. They have been designed so that red is for the right ear and blue is for the left ear.

> Do they fit securely in the ear?

If the correct size foam tip is used and the device is fitted correctly then they will be secure. There is a silicone cord option available that keeps the left and right devices together.

ProFlex Passive

>Will I be able to hear while wearing ProFlex Passive?

The Passive module is fitted with a special inline filter that allows you to hear ambient sounds around you, but blocks loud sounds.

> Will the ambient sound I hear be the same as with the electronic models?

No, the inline filter will affect the higher frequencies a little, even on the quieter sounds, so the resultant sound will not be as high fidelity as the electronic modules.

> Can I have them personalised with my name?

All of the ear pieces will have the users name, however there is an optional laser marking service available for the outside face of the passive insert. We can laser mark names and logos: view here

> Can I have my own logo put on the passive insert?

Yes, in most cases. Due to the area available to mark, complex logos will not be visible. However we will in some cases simplify the logo so as to be able to laser mark but retain the logo integrity.

> Can I have different colours in each ear?

Yes, you have the option when ordering them to select both the earpiece colours and the passive insert colours. The colour options available can be seen here: view here

> Can I buy ProFlex Passive now and then add/get the electronic modules later when I can afford them?

Yes, this option was part of the design intent.

> Will insect repellent affect my ProFlex Passive devices?

Some insect repellents do contain DEET which is an effective solvent. This will cause damage to the materials of the ProFlex Passive so should not be used. Testing in house showed Jungle formula Medium and Maximum to degrade the plastic but Jungle Formula Sensitive Skin and Natural had no effect.
